The US Constitution forbids the establishment of religion, but some people either think it does, or want it to, create a wide separation between anything connected to government and religious faith or ideas. That goes far beyond what the constitution calls for.

Others might not think the constitution goes so far, or want it to, but find any mention of religion or God by someone in an official speech to be objectionable. Even if they don't think the constitution enforces a strong separation between church and state they would want a very strong one to be observed, some even go further and want religion excised from any public space (and public in this case not just in the sense of connected to the government).

>> The Constitution forbids government establishment of religion; it does not bar politicians from supporting religion personally

Correct. Then he should have run on a religious platform from the get go. He should have told us that he'd be consulting God in his actions first and that he'd appoint people by looking into their souls. He should have presented himself as religiously before his election as he did afterwards. He did not. Bush portrayed himself in tune with the vast majority of Americans and ended up completely ignoring anyone who did not vote for him. He is not just the president of those who elected him; he is the president of the whole country...in all your years, have you ever seen a president so divisive of Americans?

In my previous post the video of Bush vs. Bush note how Bush avoids mention of God but President Bush has no problems with it. Even better, take a look here youtube.com
