(Nasdaq: BRLC), a manufacturer and marketer of LCD and LCoS(TM) HDTVs and digital entertainment products, last Friday celebrated the grand opening of an LCD TV manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China, under its Nanjing Huahai Display Technology Co., Ltd. joint venture. With a projected capacity of approximately 300,000 units annually, the facility will significantly bolster output of the company's Olevia-brand LCD TVs for the burgeoning Chinese consumer electronics market. In addition to manufacture and assembly, the joint venture supports Syntax-Brillian's participation in a strategic alliance with a consortium of Asia-based companies to accelerate expansion of Olevia LCD TVs in China and the Pacific Rim, conduct ongoing research and development, and market, distribute and support the Olevia product family throughout the region. "We are very proud to bring this excellent 30,000+ sq. ft. facility on line to support our production and marketing objectives in China and North America," said James Li, president of Syntax-Brillian. "This modern facility with a fully automated production line, as well as the supplemental support provided by the joint venture, represents an important milestone in Syntax-Brillian's strategy to build a global manufacturing, marketing and distribution network for the Olevia brand." Since the company entered the Hong Kong and China markets in August 2004, sales of Olevia LCD TVs have grown quickly, and Olevia is now one of the three top-selling LCD TV brands in the 25"-29" category and among the top ten brands in the 35"-39" category according to DisplaySearch. Syntax-Brillian currently distributes Olevia LCD TVs in China through five major consumer electronics distributors serving eight cities on China's east coast. The Nanjing facility is expected to provide the company with more cost-effective, just-in-time-delivery for channel partners throughout China, as well as capacity to support the growing demand for Olevia LCD TVs in the United States, Canada and Latin America.
