There are many things to admire about Theodore Roosevelt and at least a half-dozen earlier presidents. And some later than he was. I do not understand how a country, on which so many hundreds of billions of dollars--public and private--have been expended on education, can have elected such a bad government. Not the worst in the world, but pretty bad for the United States.

T.R had a wide range of genuinely intellectual interests as well as his much celebrated popular image of energy and activity and bravery. Our current president is a hollow shell of physical cowardice and intellectual vacuity.
