Re: This is a nice play against Intel's much more costly Yonahs and Meroms. They grace the shelves at BestBuy for 2 grand, and go up against a Sempron for one fourth the price at Xmas.

The real Merom competion will come from Dell @ $750, not Best Buy at $2,000. Dell is selling a 1.66GHz Merom laptop for $750 with Windows XP MCE, 1GB DDR2, 15.4" screen, and 80GB hard drive. Yonah @ 1.66GHz is $50 less.

I suspect the $450-500 Sempron systems will be downgraded in more than one of the following ways:

single channel DDR2
only 512MB system memory
14" screen
Windows XP Home
40GB hard drive
