Nope, it didn't happen. SOI was available at 130-nm and later 90-nm, but the NV30 GPU was never intended to be produced on SOI so it was done on bulk silicon. Yields were poor so NVIDIA left. If SOI could magically increase GPU frequencies by 100% then NVIDIA might have had a reason to continue development and production with IBM.
