Compare Montana with Germany as they are roughly the same size. I have no hard data, but I would bet that most residents of Montana can identify Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota and Alberta on a map. I don't think a trip across the border is such an enlightening experience in most cases. I find the depth of knowledge that Germans have about the US to be quite low which contributes to a negative image of the US while building confidence in the surety of that image. Perhaps I have been unlucky and met a lot of dummies. ;-)
