A good example is the Chicago area. Chicago is warmer in the winter and cooler in summer (the lake and heat island effect make a big difference).

We lived in the western suburbs with all those 4k - 5k sq ft, NG heated homes. The temperature was often 10 degree different from downtown Chicago (and the airports) then were we lived.

You hear it on the radio it got down to 10 degrees last night in Chicago but the suburbs were all below zero.

Check it out sometime this winter.
