A slight correction in your calculations. You assumed that we'd only be able to reduce gas consumption by 50%, but that number is low. If we bought everyone a plug-in, hybrid, flex-fuel, then we could reduce the use of gas by 90% or more. With flex-fuels alone we could all be driving E85 or E90 (10-15% gas only). Add in hybrids and that pushes the use of gas down even further. Add in plug-ins and that reduces it even further.
