fair trade policy, not trade policy that is skewed to only benefit multinational corporations.

Free trade isn't "trade policy skewed to only benefit multinational corporations".

separation of powers

Which is what we have today, and something most Republicans are behind.

fair and transparent elections

Rather vague, esp. the fair part.

that the US should be a moral beacon for the rest of the world, by following international conventions such as the Geneva convention, the right of habeas corpus, etc.

Arguably we are following the Geneva conventions to the letter, and the writ of habeas corpus has almost never been applied to enemies captured overseas while at war.

protection of the environment

Again hardly something Republicans oppose, the real issue being what you do to protect the environment, to achieve what benefit, at what cost.

the principle of democracy

Again something Republicans are strongly behind.

That's fine, Mark, and I suspect we mostly agree on all your listed items except possibly #6. In fact, as a matter of general principles, I doubt that any politician would disagree.

But your reply, about YOUR principles, aren't reflected, insofar as I've been able to see, in any of the current electioneering.

So, there's a lot of negativity out there, but so far as I know, it doesn't look like either party can claim the "high ground." The Repubs have done some positive things in the last 6 years, and they're trying to defend them. The Dems, as I see it, only want to destroy those things, whether they're positive or not.

I gotta go now, but will be willing to talk more later if you're of a mind to do so.
