Taiwan wasn't breakaway, Mao's gang was as much breakaway. A parting of the ways by two parts doesn't mean one or the other has broken away, they have both broken away. It wasn't as though there was a vote. There was just the barrels of guns. And there's no reason why when one gets foreign assistance, the other shouldn't too. And there's no reason why one or the other shouldn't get unilateral foreign assistance, if they can. If it's just dog eat dog and might makes right then all is fair in love and conquest.
Certainly, Japan's ownership of Taiwan became untenable due to foreign intervention by the USA, finalized by nuclear bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. By right of conquest, that makes Taiwan belong to the USA instead of Japan. But the USA abrogated power.
Chiang Kai Czech took over and I suppose was assisted by the USA, who were not enamoured of Mao and communism in general. Sensibly so.
So, howsoever it came in the mists of time to go its own way, go it did and as you say, the passage of time has made its self-determination "just is". Meaning not part of China. Despite whining and threatening by said megalomaniacs. If one can't wind back the clock in Tibet, which was acquired in much more recent times than Taiwan was owned by some 19th century totalitarian Chinese ruler, then it seems silly to try to wind back the clock in Taiwan, which has gone its own way for much longer than has Tibet been bound up into Beijing's cruel clutch.
China is starting to sound like Jews with their Promised Land from 2000 years ago. But at least the Jews bought most of their land, fair and square, and acquired the rest in wars of conquest started by enemy states who thought they could help themselves against a puny new country.
Iran is still threatening to throw Jews into the sea [assuming they don't do their own Final Solution on them first]. Israel could quite reasonably in my view consider that a declaration of genocidal war, respond in kind and depopulate Iran with neutron bombs galore and have a greatly expanded country, complete with lots of oil.
Hezbollah was a little surprised that Jews didn't just lie down and die with their recent attack, but came back very forcefully, until Hezbollah cried "Uncle". Iran should NOT be surprised if Israel replies to their murderous intentions far more forcefully, given that Iran is a much graver threat that some Hezbollahists in Lebanon.
What exactly in Taiwan does Hu Jintao "own"? What did he do to earn possession of that property? Nothing! He simply wants to be Mr Big Noter who is the Big Stupid Boss, King of all he surveys. If Taiwanese vote to join up and throw in their lot with him, then that would be reasonable for him to agree to act as Chief In Command. If they don't want him as their owner, it's hard to see why they should agree to his nasty ways. He might decide he needs a million eunuchs and that Taiwanese would be excellent for the purpose.
Siberia, Brunei etc can wait for now.
You seem to be obsessed with me not living in NZ. Odd. Do you think everyone who has an ancestor from any time in history who moved further than the horizon should return to ... exactly where?
I am led to believe you have done some simple arithmetic and even some multiplying in your educational efforts. So, I dare say you could calculate the number of ancestors a person would have 1000 years ago. Let's say the average reproduction age was 20 years. That's 50 generations. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 ... = how many?
Does it occur to you that not all of those ancestors would have come from a particular village?
Would one send an arm to one place, a head to another, a leg to a third? You should be able to see the problem. You racists never seem to understand that not everyone is a perfect descendant from 2000 years ago, as is the case [so they say] on the Chrysanthemum Throne. So we can't all "go back where we belong". We pretty much belong where we are living, just as many children will have been born in Tibet and "home" is pretty much where they are living. And many Palestinians have been born in Gaza and that's their home.
Sure, my mother was born in China, but that doesn't make China my home, nor France my home because a grandmother was from there, nor the place where I got my weird gene from [I have no idea where that was, but maybe Ethiopia, India or elsewhere]. Where should I go if Maoris decided to abrogate the treaty, which was already abrogated in a way by Great Britain, but in fact Queen Elizabeth is still our sovereign so they haven't really, though we are not British Subjects, so they have, as being a British subjects was part of the deal, as said "Hei iwi tahi tatou"?
Maoris would have to give back all the money they got for the land, with interest please. And, they'd have to buy all the assets built by me all over the place. I don't think it would make sense TJ. Though of course you would say something dopey like having bought the land, my ancestors shouldn't have built anything on it in case Maoris changed their minds in a century or three. Which begs the question, exactly which Maoris do you mean?
It might be easier just to nuke Beijing, nuke Iran, nuke Kim II, and that should settle things down nicely, though it would spoil a lot of CDMA sales. Beijing threatens murder, so does Iran, so does Kim, so they shouldn't be surprised if they get it back, in spades and trumps.
Perhaps if they took a lesson from Japan's expeditionary marauding, they'd see that it's better to be civilized than murderous.
