If we're only talking about "offensive" speech, then I think we all have a responsibility to protect it.

In my opinion, a person who has taken offense at something someone else said, has made a choice to be offended, just as the speaker has chosen what to say. The offended person has not actually been harmed in any real way.

This is not to say that I think people should just run around shouting racial epithets and slurs at each other. That's really a matter of common courtesy.

Calling all liberals "moonbats" is a good example. It's rude, and it demonstrates a lack of respect for other people's viewpoints. For that reason, I think people shouldn't do it. But that's a matter of manners, not law.
