termed Freedom Mountain Kowloon and Money Rock Hong Kong

Kowloon gangsters are always looking for prey. Don't even think of bringing any physical gold in the streets. And Hong Kong main food supply depends on mainland. Anything bad in the supply chain will jeopardise the economy. USA has food surplus, unlike China which is barely enough feeding 3-4 times the size the population of the US. It has been a worrisome situation haunting the Chinese in all their history. Without enough food, gold is useless.

Tobago Jack, sure the HK authorities may indeed never ban the private ownership of gold. On the other hand, the US once banned it for decades. If the Canadian government ever banned the private ownership of gold I would certainly obey the law and I think in that respect I am a typical Canadian. It's not that I approve of such a law; I am just unwilling to be a law breaker when there is so little a glorious principle at stake. That's one of the deterrents for me buying gold. Jealousy may actually induce the passage of such a law, when TEOTWAWKI comes. In fact, Canada has never banned the possession of gold because gold mining has some significance to the Canadian economy. That could change.
