I saw a boat crossed the Atlantic with Washer, Drier and Microwave, and they used 10 or 12 gallons of diesel.
they have wind generators and little generators you toss over the side and the forward motion of the boat makes electricity. also you can use the rotation of the propeller when you are under sail, I don't know how but apparently it is possible. There seems to be no reason that boats should use fuel except for times when they are becalmed, but even boats without a sail can be run on electricity
