Maurice, I agree with everything you say. I am all for lobbies arguing their causes, and may the best argument win.

However, in America lobbies can bribe politicians to achieve their goals via practically unlimited campaign contributions. Therefore, the deepest pockets rather than the best arguments win in the American political game. That can't be good in the long term, since it degrades democracy into a plutocracy of the few.
