“most were stunned into debt-ly inaction, until it was too late?” Sings are always on the wall. Pointing up, or, depending on the occasion, pointing up.

There were a few types of people:

1) People on the know: who were ready to gain from the outcome. Gorged in money real good.

2) People clueless: People who believed that that thing was for real and a Pacific Century was dawning based in what was called, then, ‘Asian Values’, Guanxi… Fleeced on the spot in a lesson not to be forgotten until the end of their lives. Dry cleaned. Pressed and folded.

3) Ordinary people: lived off the crumbs form the table. Suffered painfully, post melt down, but again, they still knew where they came, how it was there and knew how to lived as before, so they just re-adapted.

4) People who think they were on the know: They were emptying the penthouse, and thinking if the garage of their parents house could take all paraphernalia they’ve got. Remember Singapore’s Rogue trader? That is the most extreme case of this sort.

5) Then there is Elmat; Arrived Bandung end of January, 1995. 8 weeks later was writing: Indonesia is an accident waiting to happen. And if Asia was like it, it was going down.

Singapore’s Rogue Trader, BRE-X. The BTS train and the half finished overheads of Bangkok while the traffic jam was ravaging, needing the King to interfere… If at that time people was not ready to run for cover, seeing all that, they deserved their fate.
