NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Global petroleum capacity will fall short of demand in the decades to come, stoking demand for biofuels, Archer Daniels Midland ADM35 CEO Patricia Woertz told Wall Street analysts on Wednesday. U.S. demand for ethanol currently outstrips supply for ethanol, she said. ADM plans to be the No. 1 ethanol maker in the world, she said. The company also plans to open a new natural-based plastics plant by 2008. ADM shares are rallying 5% to $35.23 in recent trades. ADM's biodegradable plastics partner, Metabolix, is planning a $75 million IPO later this week.
