Webb should have shut up after "I'm a serious writer". But Cheney put her own writings in play when she became a mouthpiece for the smears. That is just pots and kettles. ;<)

Obviously, they have to be smart about their response but they have to take it on. Kerry's big, big failure in 04 was to try to ignore the slander in the swift boat stuff. There is, for instance, and you may have seen it, the notion that Allen's use of the scenes from Webb's novels increases the pressure for reporters to get access to Allen's divorce papers. Which are sealed. No one side can afford to unilaterally disarm.
