"Doesn't matter whether the money is from the immediate family or the extended family. "

Come on Tench, that is a pretty dumb statement. It does matter. True, Kerry was lucky. Often what happens in a situation like that is the rich ones move in a different orbit from the others. Happened in my family. The money wasn't quite the same scale, but one of my cousins married a man whose family owns a large chain of barbeque restaurants. Her siblings are still career military, farmers, post office workers, etc. And their children didn't go to fancy schools or even college, except what they paid for themselves...

Kerry's mother is from the poor side of the Forbes family. They didn't get any of the Forbes magazine money. I can identify. My grandmother was Walt Disney's cousin. I didn't get a dime either. So does that make me a rich elitist?

Should Dems have attacked Bush's giant gaffe in terror speech as if Bush was betraying the country and owed us all an apology?

US President George W Bush
Speech-writers wish Mr Bush would stick to the script
In his latest gaffe, President George W Bush has appeared to suggest that his administration is forever thinking up ways of harming the US and its people.

"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful - and so are we," the US president told a high-level meeting of Pentagon officials.

"They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people - and neither do we."

His comments came during a signing ceremony for a $417bn defence bill.
