Kerry worded the joke poorly. The context was there and I don't think he meant it for the troops. The hyperbole is obviously because the pubs desperately need something to feed on before the election. I wish Kerry had kept his mouth shut.

The RWE threads are in a feeding frenzy over Kerry's remark. Someone sent me a private e-mail last night of a post on one of those threads once again accusing the "MSM" of all sorts of calumny because they didn't put the Kerry bit on the front page above the fold. Paranoia abounds.

When I watched the clip, it seemed obvious that Kerry lost his place halfway through his snide "joke", which imo served him right (even when they later printed how it was supposed to be read, it was mean and unfunny), and struggled to finish it. However, the words came out very, very wrong, and he should have immediately corrected it and apologized if it gave any wrong impression. But his namecalling and attack on Snow and Bush was all out of whack, and Bush's on him was opportunistic and nasty as well. We just went through all this with Rush and Fox, when Rush claimed his intent was not to mock and the LWers went nuts. It seems as if in a desire to get someone, people often wind up getting tunnel vision and fail to see how what they do often ends up getting them. Sick of them all.
