You weren't the one who came up with 'proactive', were you? The one that gave me the most pause was the transition, now long past, from "chairmen" to "chairs." Up to that point, academic departments, at least at places I had been on the faculty, had "chairmen." There were no women. I'm trying to recall which department at my then university had the first woman chair; I think it was psychology but could easily have been modern languages. At any rate, that event prompted a university wide debate. We settled on "chairs." Took some getting used to.
