Typically, purchased digital music contains digital rights management (DRM) which will limit your ability to copy it to multiple locations such as portable players and other computers. MS Media Player will ask when you look up the track information as you rip if you want to add DRM to it.

To the best of my knowledge, none of my 40+GB of music has any DRM.
