October 29, 2006 -- MOSCOW - Dozens have died and more than 1,000 have received hospital treatment as alcohol poisoning sweeps Russia, authorities said yesterday.

Alcoholism and poisoning from low-quality, bootlegged booze are among the biggest problems facing post-Soviet Russia - where male life expectancy is just 59 years.
