"Irrelevant doesn't mean unimportant"

Clearly though, in this case, Iran's ties to the Iraqi Shiite leadership, and their *formal* defense treaty with 'Iraq' are NEITHER 'irrelevant' NOR 'unimportant'....

"That argument is a good example of this logical fallacy <'Ignoratio elenchi', irrelevant conclusion>"

So.... You are claiming that IRANIAN SUPPORT for, (& influence in) the Iraqi Shiite government is --- what? --- 'irrelevant' to the matter of drawing any conclusions about what policies it would be best for the US to pursue with regard to Iraq?????????

>>> I'm left practically SPEECHLESS here... so just WHAT IN HELL do you imagine we SHOULD pay attention to if not the strategic facts???????

Clearly it seems you've already ditched the idea of considering what most would consider normal cost/benefit measures (you know: trillion dollars... lives lost, that sort of thing...) traditionally used to evaluate policy by.

Now, it looks like you want to rule 'irrelevant' major objective facts in evidence that affect actual conditions on the ground (the Iranian influences in 'Iraq') and impact the strategic considerations....

What's left, but to go back to Thomas Sowell's famous words about objective policy vs. a fanatic's closed mind set:

"The difference between a policy and a crusade is that a policy is judged by its results, while a crusade is judged by how good it makes its crusaders feel."

(Sure hope you can continue to *feel* well! Regardless of whatever transpires in the outside world.... That's a NEAT ABILITY to have!)
