He was using the pluralistic "you". He was speaking to a GROUP of youth and referring to what happens to youth whom fail to study and become "smart". They end up as soldiers, fighting (what to Kerry is) a stupid fight. He intended precisely what he said. There are no elements of humor or wit, either verbal or non verbal.

He is making a clear statement that youth who do not do well (through getting "smart") will fail to do well (through staying dumb). He then provides a concrete example of failed youth (in his so very humble opinion--LOL!).

By extension he is saying that any support or agreement from these youth for the initiative against terror being waged in Iraq, disposes them as stupid and brainwashed. Not only was he denigrating the current service men and women, but he was attempting to imbue these college kids with his particular and peculiar disrespect.

He could well addend "just like Bush" or anything else as a pretense, but the fact remains that this would be in addition to his contention that youth serving in Iraq are failures--and anything but educated and smart. He neither addended this nor intended to addend it...and it would not change the meaning of his insult one wit if he had!

Now, he truly believes this--fine. But in believing it and asserting it, he is proven a foul and miserable miscreant--and surely a sodding failure.

You are right about those whom are avoiding seeing the obvious. "Naive" is overly polite, IMO.

Kerry is sorry - but not about insulting the troops

Proof positive that Kerry's apology - delivered in writing, and never mouthed by the Senator himself - was totally bogus: his website put up an article defending his slam against the troops.

How is this "proof," you may ask. Well, if, as Kerry's phony "apology" claims, he was misspeaking, and NEVER INTENDED to insinuate the troops were dumb, WHY would his website post an argument that the troops ARE dumb?

IF he was, as he claims, trying to "joke" about President Bush, what possible point would there be in supplying - false and outdated - data supporting the interpretation that earned him universal scorn?

No wonder Kerry has adopted the Bob Casey, Jr. "run and hide" strategy, and refused to address these issues personally. HE SAID WHAT HE BELIEVES. There was no misstatement. There was no misunderstanding.

Congratulations, Senator! You just saved a bunch of your wife's money. Forget 2008, and go wind-skiing or waterboarding or whatever.
