Please, let's not go from the sublime to the ridiculous. I said nothing of the sort. Please try to read what I write, not what you want me to have written.

I have no good argument for this. You're right. They didn't have good enough crystal balls. But, unlike their predecessors, at least they did have balls.

Once we gave them their elections, we could have declared victory and withdrawn. The window of opportunity for that closed over a year ago. Now we are fighting AQ and standing guard while Sunnis and Shiites blow themselves apart and take quite a few of our guys with them.

BTW, I think it is simplistic and naive to suggest Iraq and Afghanistan aren't overrun with terrorists and that fighting and killing them there isn't better than doing it here.
