Good question. Any idea why that is the case?

I had read somewhere, that many American "Jews" are "Jews" by blood line only, not practicing religious "Jews" -- excepting, of course, on the more festive Holidays. A high percentage were alleged to be religious agnostics or atheists who have become part of the problem. Probably the same may be said for professed Christians.
