did you hear that bechtel is leaving iraq b/c the costs are too high to provide security for their workers? private companies are motivated by their profit margins, so it is not surprising that bechtel is the first major contracting firm to pull out of iraq in light of the security mess there...

this has the ultimate effect of eroding the engineer and contracting support that the army relied upon to restore infrastructure and other projects to rebuild iraq...this is going to erode the combat capabilities of the us army, b/c combat engineers and other specialized troops that are utilized for patrols, etc. are going to be shifted to fill this shortfall...
