Sully -

This is hilarious!

"Four days before an election, we don’t talk about the startling new unemployment figures (the best in five years!)" Well apparently we do know about them, else how is the author writing about them? I've seen that story, prominently displayed, in several places, and heard about it on NPR.

"or progress against North Korea (winning concessions no one expected)."

And our side made some concessions, too. See? I know about it. Concessions were made by both sides to allow the resumption of negotiations. Sorry, that's just not as sexy a story as the Haggard scandal. Sex sells, intricate diplomacy doesn't. The bias there is toward ratings and making money, not left or right.
