As girls generally inherit more traits and abilities from their Dad than from their Mom, I would imagine your little girl has a pretty smart Dad! However, I don't mean to say her Mom is not smart.

But beware: kids can and do change over time. While some kids increase their abilities as they grow into adulthood, some kids seem to "stagnate" in their mental development or do even worse...... Oftentimes, new-found interests arising from raging hormonal changes in the body have been known to somehow relegate development of mental abilities to the backburner for a long time if not forever! The opposite was also observed.

I have a cousin who could play strong games of blindfold chess when he was 9 but he gradually lost that ability as he grew into adulthood. Another cousin was able to do 3-digit mutiplications (3-digit multiplicand x 3-digit multiplier) in his head when he was 7 but he lost this ability as he grew older. By contrast, I was considered a dummy and was the butt of many family jokes. But my mental abilities increased steadily over the years to the pleasant surprise of my family and friends. I personally know of some university students who, although they were poor students in their first and second years, they shot way ahead of their peers in the final year and at graduate school.

By the way, Nadia Comaneche (at 14), the Hungarian gymnast who scored perfect 10s at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal and elsewhere, lost her interest and ability in gymnastics by the time she was 16! However, she became a gymnastics trainer.
