The flight suit was not optional.

Neither would the ejection seat training. If the President hadn't already had both the military wouldn't have let him fly out on an S-3.

The plane and crew he flew out with was from the VS-35 Blue Wolves.....my old squadron. I knew the pilot (great guy) fairly well and a couple others on board. Unfortunately, LCDR Scott Zellem died several months later in a crash during a training exercise around Iwo Jima............:

The flight suit WAS optional, because the whole grandstanding stunt was optional.
