I believe that is what Rove and Bush feared: that the GOP would not adapt well to the demographic wave in America, not compete for and win the rising Hispanic voters, and thus might ultimately shrink to a remanent smaller base: and be reduced to the 'Party of White southerners'... not competitive nationally.

Obviously, a decades-long process (the rise of Hispanic voters), and an open question (the future direction of *both* Parties) in any event... for there is EVEN MORE evidence to support the view, IMO, that *both* Republican and Democrat Parties are losing support to 'Independents' and smaller Parties --- with 'Independent' being by far the largest political classification in America now, and some 15% or so of Americans classifying their political views as 'Libertarian' now... although nowhere near that number are yet identified with the Political Party that carries that banner.
