Ted, > Ten, a booming economy doesn't happen by chance inspite of what your party leaders want you to believe.

The Dow is hitting record highs today, and unemployment is at a six year low. All this despite Iraq.

You want to give Bush the credit for that? No, I didn't think so.

I will give him credit. There are certain industries that are benefiting from his largesse: defense and oil come to mind.

The rest is from global demand......primarily due to China. To know that the US is not as well off as the statistics suggest.......look no further than tech....esp. consumer tech. Most chip companies including INTC and AMD have had one disappointing quarter after the other. In fact the only tech I have in my portfolio right now is GIGM [internet gambling....outside the US of course] and LVLT....spec play on fiber outlay for youtube and google. And I sold AKAM recently....streaming video. Most of the rest is smelling up the joint.

Another industry doing relatively well right now in the US is commercial building and I don't credit Bush for that improvement. In the late '90s, commercial space became overbuilt. Its taken 8 years to work off the overhang....which btw is not very fast. Now that its gone, there has been a modest uptick in commercial building.

All other industry that's doing reasonably well has to do with commodities.....again driven by China's growth. In my mind, Bush lucked out......if it weren't for China we still be in recession. And you know what, places like OH, MI and IN haven't come out of recession. That's why Bush is doing so badly in those areas.

How can you expect the economy to be firing on all cylinders like it did under Clinton when you have a president totally preoccuppied with Iraq. It just ain't going to happen.

Umm, Tench, we are pouring stimulus into the economy to the tune of nearly $1.5 billion dollars a day. That is 48 million burger flipper jobs. Or 5 million extremely good paying($100k per year) jobs. Or, to look at it another way, our deficit is running about 17% of our total payroll. With numbers like that, I am surprised the economy is doing so poorly...
