A few years ago he worked in a diesel engine plant in the same role, just in time parts management. They were supposed to fill a 40 engine van every two hours. Half the time the vans left for the truck assembly plant half full. The problem was the Japanese machines, black boxes really, that were supposed to make engines out of the parts. They would have loved to blame him for their failure, but the evidence was conclusive that he had everything in place when needed. He quit in disgust. He quite the shock absorber plant too for the same reason, but they hired him back on contract because they couldn't do without him.
