so in Japan, there were almost 1.5 million subs added to the CDMA roster, from PDC subs and new subs, which boils down to what? Are there ballpark numbers for chipsets and ASP's for these subs?

Looks like an additional taxable 1 cent per share, with 35 million PDC subs to go over the next couple of years.

The vast majority of handset sales (~90%) in Japan are already 3G so these numbers dont really represent growth anymore....they have become the steady state. In order to see growth in the numbers, we'll need to see increases in the total number of handsets sold in '07. The preliminary numbers in MNP arent big, but as in the US, the real numbers might be coming from an increased replacement rate. We'll have to wait a few months for JEITA to announce total handset sales in October and November.

FWIW, I think that NTT Docomo's WCDMA ASP's are probably around $460....perhaps $400 for KDDI. I dont think I have ever heard an estimate for Softbank, though it is likely to be lower.
