...but because he might do something wrong.

Yes, that's exactly right. That's called taking precautions. Every parent does it when picking sitters, day care, and other things. Just cause someone chooses not to use this or that sitter or day care provider, doesn't make them mean, bigoted, oppressive, etc.

Obviously you and the scouts have no problem dictating other peoples lives.

Obviously you have no problem dictating policy to the Boy Scouts. Why shouldn't they be allowed to set their own policy?

This isn't some horrible child molester

Maybe. Maybe not. There is no right to be a scout master.

One day it is revealed he is not heterosexual, and all his efforts were tossed out the window.

No, they didn't take away whatever badges or whatever he had earned. He still was an eagle scout for whatever that is worth. He just needs to grow up and get him some adult gay camping buddies.

There was no evidence of anything inappropriate.

There doesn't have to be. There is no right to be a scout master.

So he was found guilty of a crime he might commit.

He wasn't found guilty of anything. He simply wasn't allowed to be a scout master. There is no right to be a scout master.

This is a fine idea, and surely what America was founded on.

America wasn't founded on the right of anyone who wants to be a scout master. Or on the right of an elite to force their social views on the rest of society. If you don't like how the scouts pick their scout masters, you don't have to be involved with them. Just don't outlaw them and put onerous restrictions on them that other organizations don't suffer under.

BTW, I was never a scout. I had a childhood friend who was though. I thought their book had some neat stuff about camping out in it, but the badges and uniform stuff was silly and dorky. But hey its a fine organization for many people and it s/b allowed to exist for those who want to participate. And they s/b allowed to make their rules as to scout masters as they see fit.
