"I suppose after Dot bomb and 9/11 coupled with the greed of the housing bubble, they simply lost sight of their fiscally conservative values (minds)."

Could be. I think this is an important question, though. The Democrats were no angels, their spending habits were legendary, and with good cause. The Democrats had pretty solid control of the House since WWII. Almost, but not quite, as much in the Senate. Yet the Republicans, in 12 years and they didn't really get cranked until the last 6, have managed to eclipse the Democrats in almost every area, from sex scandals to flat out corruption and runaway deficits. Some of the big scandals of the Democrats look so petty in the light of what has been happening recently. Jim Wright was run out on a rail for book deals amounting to thousands of dollars. Dan Rostenkowski was jailed over abuse of franking privileges, again amounting to thousands of dollars. And then there was the check kiting scandal. Now, don't get me wrong, these people were engaging in criminal conduct and got what they deserved, but compared to what we have going on today, it is the equivalent of petty thievery compared to grand larceny.
