Bush increases federal educational spending by over 100% and Democrats cry out for more. Bush introduces a new entitlement program and Democrats want more government money added to it. Again and again they call for more spending on specific large programs. They might call to eliminate tiny programs, or small bits of pork spending, but they want to increase the big programs. And they fiercely resist any cuts, or even reduction in growth, or other reforms of the really big non-defense programs, Social Security, Medicare, etc.

Sure you can find Democrats who say "we should spend less", but that isn't the message you get from Democratic politicians, and it won't be the result of them taking control of the house (and quite likely the senate)
