But, things have happened over the past few years that I would NEVER have imagined before Bush. Americans torturing suspects. CIA agents outed for political gain. Another red scare "if you're not with us you're against us". America ceding the moral high ground for cheap short term gain. Fear is a powerful thing, and the neocons wielded it magnificently. But the Rove Reign of Terror is open, at least a majority of Americans now have their eyes open. But, the checks and balances have been thrown out of kilter. Congress (both Democrats and Republicans) meekly surrendered their executive oversight powers. The press bowed to the smear pressure to avoid the clever 'liberal main stream media' label. The President and Vice President abuse their positions and thumb their noses at any potential limit to their power under the guise of national security and signing statements. Bush supporters openly threaten the independence of the judiciary with their 'activist judges' slander. It will take a good deal of effort to restuff Pandora's box. Maybe we can do so and still hang onto hope...
