Not directly. Or probably not even indirectly. One of the things I liked about Sir Bush the Old is that he, for the most part, chose competent people for his appointees. And whatever I might dislike about Baker, he is extremely competent and has a realistic view of foreign policy. Gates, though, is a failure. Although he promised to fix the parking problem at A&M, it is still all frakked up...

Doubt it. The senior Bush is (a) too old, and (b) too smart to make his son look like he's running to daddy for help. Even if W needs it.
