CHICAGO, Nov. 8 -- Democratic gains in Congress and among the nation's governors were matched on Tuesday by a huge surge closer to the grass roots -- in the state legislatures, where more than 275 seats and 10 legislative chambers from Iowa to Oregon switched overnight from Republican to Democratic hands.

With those legislative victories combined with the six new Democratic governors elected on Tuesday, Democrats are now the one-party government in 15 states -- including New Hampshire for the first time since 1874, and Colorado for the first time since 1960. No party has controlled as many as 15 states since the Republicans achieved that exact number after the 1994 election.

But what was equally remarkable, said Tim Storey, a senior fellow at the National Conference of State Legislatures, a bipartisan group, is that the gains occurred everywhere in the country, even in the South, where Democrats lost ground in every statehouse election since 1982 -- until Tuesday. The gains there were tiny, about 20 legislative seats spread across 14 states, but the direction, Mr. Storey said, was the important thing.

Good points. Maybe refined to 'the war on extremists attempting to impose their will through non-democratic means'. I certainly not against the inevitable lunatic fringe; I'm sorry to see the Cyberkens and Watsons banned as at least they provide some perspective even if it is from wackoville. And, as Michael J Fox so aptly put it, if after thought and study we disagree, well, that's America.

But realize that those who fall under the above title exist both outside and inside this country. Whenever a group attempts to stiffle discussion or justice (through intimidation, non-Constitutional practices, or hiding behind the veil of 'national security'), they become anti-democracy. Unfortunately, portions of this administration fall into that category.

Here's a direct question: Are you a moslum? That would explain everything about your apologetic stance on moslum terrorists... you are free to respond...

I asked you if you are a moslum... you have ducked and hid from that question several times, I therefore take it that you are indeed a moslum but lack the courage to step forward and say so, this is very typical of moslums in general, why else do you support terrorism and hide in the dark from my illuminating questions? That's okay, you don't have to answer anything, you are booted from this thread forever, and good riddance...

Oh, and have a really nice day...<g>
