With one miss step in this area, a trebling of oil prices and a global economic meltdown the American public will indeed be looking for another new direction.


Well things might get a tad sticky for a few months, but lots of other countries will share the pain, and American inventiveness will save the day. Don't forget a devastating shortage of oil will affect everyone.

2/3 of the worlds oil is in the Persian Gulf.

But Canada has vast amounts of oil sands which are being rapidly developed. And the USA has huge oil shale and coal deposits, the largest in the world, which can both be utilized for liquification or gasification economically at current energy price levels. Removing the stupid political impediments to such resource development is another story, though..
