Arnold only ran as a "Republican" because there was an opening on the party's slate. Just the way JFK , who was really a Republican ran as a Democrat because there was an opening on the party's Senatorial slate.

Hi Sun Tzu; Re: "Nope. You'd be celebrating and planning how to ensure your own permanent majority."

Every now and again, an election comes along that signifies a realignment of politics in America. This was not one of them.

To give you perspective, here's a chart showing Republican and Democrat strength in the house and senate for the past 100 years:
voteview.com

Both parties still have at least 196 members in the House. Over the past 100 years, this has only happened for 30 years. And 16 of those years will have been 1994-2008. In short, the political parties have never before been this balanced, for this long, in the history of this country. And as some of the remaining 10 House races will fall to the Republicans, the result of the election will be that much more even handed.
