How about the movie and television studios? Why shouldnt they also get a cut?

There will also be hardware that bypasses this content fee, which will be quite a bit cheaper in comparison.

Exactly...and these MP3 players (or handsets) are less likely to be closely associated with a music service, which is likely to increase the piracy rate. This is a dumb idea for both the hardware manufacturers AND the content providers.

I wonder if Microsoft is going to try to popularize the phrase "Zune tax", so that they can benefit from the free advertising Apple is getting from people talking about an "iPod tax".

Or maybe associating the word "iPod" with the word "tax" is good for Microsoft.
