That was an excellent show. I saw it in the UK. It was so information dense I actually took notes about it, since there were many books mentioned during the series, as well as people I wanted to look up.

It's encouraging to see what I've been saying for so long in a newspaper, even if it IS the Asia Times!

We've got a real problem about even raising the issue HERE, as no newspaper will do it. Any politician that shares our opinion knows that he'll immediately be labeled as "soft on defense" if not labeled a "traitor" and pounced on by the wholly-owned fear mongers of the military-industrial-government complex.

I don't see any way out of the situation. It would take a right-wing President leading the way, in a "Nixon goes to China" type moment.

Perhaps our excessive military spending here will end in the same way the Spanish Armada went down. Our economy will, at some point, just not be able to support it. And yet, Spain survives!

That may come sooner than we think. I think one of the reasons for Bush's excessive deficit spending has been to force the end of entitlement programs. I think the retiring boomers may choose to keep Social Security and lose the massive military overspending. I know I will.
