I think we are talking about 2 different things, I am only talking about vessels on the great lakes. They have by treaty never had machine guns mounted on board. The crew was armed but there were no 50 calibre guns mounted.

So in the cause of Homeland Security, the United States ended a tradition started in 1814. The worlds longest undefended border is no longer.
