ElM, what Africa needs is Globalstar. South Africa has had a gateway since 1999, but the authorities must have needed more bribery than was offered to get it going. It's still not going.

A few more gateways would be needed to cover all of Africa.

Globalstar now has a new handset available, after nearly a decade of the old, bigger one, with poor battery life.

Globalstar has also recognized, finally, after years of blundering marketing, that minute prices need to be low for regular humans to use the service. They are getting there, but still struggling with the concept.
