Focusing on the positive, and not mentioning the negative, is making them out to be better than what they where, but it isn't lying.

Note: I'm not claiming that Rush didn't lie, maybe he did, I'd have to examine each claim of a lie on its own merits. I'm just pointing out that saying "I'm not going to carry water for them anymore" isn't an admission of a lie. If he lied, he hasn't admitted it, at least not with that statement.

"When Rush says he "carried the water for certain people" he is saying he covered for those people.....made them out to be better than what they were....for the good of the party."

I believe that most of Rush's listeners are actually too dumb to realize that Rush just told them he'd been LYING to them for months or even years. I haven't read anything about it on the right wingnut blogs..
