What they appeared to learn recently is that letting go of issues that have no bank leads to major gains when trying to influence a constituency.

In the last election we heard little of the Marriage issue for example. Common folk realized long ago that a marriage is a personal relationship bound and respected by the significant community that is involved.

Is Bolton the only candidate acceptable to republicans or is he the one they want to make a test case of?

Is the electronic intelligence issue modifyable in a way that both parties can work with?

Cooperation goes both ways. If republicans dig their heals to test their power base on every issue, like the Dems did starting in 1998, then they will be seen as unreasonable and obsolete grumps who are throwing in the towel and don't care how much is lost in the process, just like we viewed the N.O.W and other lib organizations a few years ago.

I hope things go better but I am already seeing some pretty extreme obstinance in some quarters.
