Tony Snow gave up all credibility these past few months. He drank the Koolaid. His insistence 16 times in one day that Kerry apologize for something he didn't even say (a botched joke) proved Snow will say anything Karl Rove tells him to say no matter how void of fact. Only idiots believed Kerry was mocking the troops.

Also Snow's statement that Bush thnk Bolton has done a great job is the kiss of death. That's what Bush said about Brownie and Rumsfeld right before they went fired.

Great! Maybe he ought to get the Medal of Freedom, alongside Mike Brown and George Tenet.

Bolton is a bolthead. You give him credit for a cease fire in Lebanon but that was mainly the Europeans and moderate Arab states. The Israeli situation is more out of control because Bush started a "Roadmap To Peace" then forgot about it, leaving only a nice-sounding slogan with no substance. So Hamas took over in Palestine and the Iraq War drove Iran into radical hands. So no wonder.

Bolton may have admirable qualities, but he's the wrong man for the times and the job. The UN is not our enemy as so many rightwingers claimed in 2001-2004. The UN is a vital partner whom we badly need. Sure there are some kooks in it, but that's reality. We have to start dealing with the kooks instead of ignoring and demonizing them. In Reagan's era our diplomats talked to our enemies all the time.
