Harold Ford is a star, and very solid. He did not lose the race, he was smeared because of the color of his skin, feeding into old latest Dixie fears. Before that Ford was leading, in a conservative red state with only 15% black voters.

Howard Dean did a good job but it might be time for a new face.

I'd stick with Dean ... Grassroots support and he keeps a rather civilized and low profile.
